Dew Cadre meeting with Canadian Government minister

Just back from my trip to Canada and the USA and I thought i’d quickly write a blog about my meeting with Canadian Government during a trip to Vancouver.

We had the great pleasure of spending some quality time with Mr Don Fast (Deputy Minister for Community, Sport and Cultural Development) whilst visiting Vancouver recently. We met to discuss the challenges facing the public sector in the UK, Canada, and British Columbia. I was hugely impressed by what I heard. It was clear that the Deputy Minister was acutely aware of the challenges ahead and that great progress had been made in modernising their public sector. I sensed: a realism about the scale of the global challenges we all face; an optimism about the future; and a desire to strive for continuous improvement. What he described was a really progressive approach to public sector modernisation. An approach based upon inclusivity, value for money and valuing the people who serve society. It was an opportunity for me also to share my thinking and the value of Mission Critical Intervention Teams in helping to generate fresh new ideas for elected leaders to consider. Ideas… shaped not by consultants, or a few internal functional experts, but by leveraging the collective multi-disciplinary knowledge of all sectors serving society.

I found the meeting incredibly valuable, on several levels, and I am extremely grateful to the Deputy Minister and his office for accommodating my visit into his incredibly tight schedule. I hope to return in the future (possibly to Victoria) and to present more formally on the challenges ahead and the need for increased agility and speed of transformation effort.

Dew Cadre – the summer months…

The next few months are hugely challenging and exciting, with new speaking opportunities in the UK and visits to the USA and Canada plus the second book launch!

John Dew will be visiting Washington DC and Seattle in the USA on business and whilst at Seattle he will travel north into British Columbia to visit Vancouver. The visit to Vancouver will include a brief meeting with the Deputy Minister to discuss public sector transformation and the benefits of deploying Mission Critical Intervention Teams.

He will also be speaking at several conference events and is delighted to have been invited to be one of the key note speakers at the Tomorrow’s Leadership Conference in Powys 21/22 June 2012. It promises to be an innovative and creative event spread over two days at the beautiful Buckland Hall in the Brecon Beacons. His presentation will be on “Our changing World and the challenges it poses for our next generation leaders”.

His second book will be published in the summer “A Leader’s Guide to Mission Critical Intervention Teams”. Talking about the book in a recent interview at the Hilton Hotel in Cardiff John Dew had this to say:

“I’m very excited about this book… it represents the culmination of several years of research, practical experience and consultation on intervention teams and how they can make a difference to organisations. It elevates concepts such as high impact teams, agile philosophy, leveraging collective knowledge, and digital communications interface to a new level. I genuinely believe it has the potential to set talent free and drive transformational change across our public sector with real innovation, agility, and inclusivity. I am convinced that as the fast moving “digital age” landscape emerges before our public sector talent leaders it will be of incredible value to them as they go about tackling with real agility and deftness their “must win battles”.

Dew Cadre will also shortly publish two new videos on the challenges facing the public sector and the case for greater innovation and agility in our transformational effort.
